“The Samoyed Odyssey” is a playful short story about two cloned dogs—Csillo, a dignified older French bulldog, and Odyssey, an exuberant young Samoyed—who split their time between Monaco and Lake Como. Csillo sees himself as head of the household and guardian of snacks, while Odyssey is driven by boundless energy and an obsession with food and toys. After Odyssey’s attempt to steal a café sausage turns into a chaotic chase through the streets, the pair negotiate a truce and share the prize under their human’s amused supervision. Later at Lake Como, they briefly reflect on what it means to be clones, deciding that their purpose is to live an even better, more joyful version of the lives of their originals. The story ends with another spirited chase over a squeaky toy sausage, echoing the slapstick energy of Soviet-era cartoons and celebrating brotherhood, mischief, and shared snacks.
